Beautiful gothic house and vast grounds to explore. Lovely staff!! Very helpful and friendly, happy to share information but not too intrusive. There is something very unique and mesmerising about Mount Stuart - an unforgettable day trip. Craven J 4 contributions. Just beautiful- but lots of midges! Well worth the trip and lots to see.
Gorgeous shoreline and the house itself is out of this world! E H 11 contributions. Wonderful house and grounds. The house has some wonderful interiors.
The extensive grounds are amazing — many ancient trees, tree-lined footpaths down to the sea edge and beacha lovely rock garden, and a 5-acre area of the gardens that contains unusual specimens of botanic interest including plants from the southern hemisphere. Jennifer Llanelli, UK contributions. Big but not as big as I had imagined. The guides stationed through the house were extremely knowledgeable about everything concerning the house and the Marquis of Bute It was a refreshing change to visit a stately home sort of place where they were not looking to get more of your money.
There was none of that here. A very modest cafe with refreshments at realistic prices. There was no gift shop trying to sell you something that you just cannot live without. The house is well preserved, as are the objects and art on display. E N Norwich, UK 8 contributions. Lovely destination. This was a most interesting visit and the house, unfinished, was so very interesting and lots to see and enjoy.
The gardens are amazing and so beautiful Highly recommended. Karen H Cardiff, UK contributions. A grand day out. We were fortunate to be in the area on holiday on the first day of the house opening where we had prebooked tickets. We were given an excellent map of rooms which we could visit along with the one way system we had to follow. Need my first Rothesay were ten rooms open all with knowledgeable, friendly and helpful staff.
The history of the house is extremely well explained and includes some amazing details. The tour takes about an hour as there are limits on of people in each room, which was managed extremely well. The house itself is absolutely stunning as are the vast gardens. We spent around five hours here and could have easily have spent longer. The tea room again is very well managed and stocks soup, sandwiches, cakes and ice creams as well as the usual drinks.
Toilet facilities were excellent. If you are on the Isle of Bute or staying locally this place is a must see.
It truly is a great day out! Stupendous experience. What a stupendous place. Guides so knowledgeablefriendly and informative. Every room a masterpiece of ingenuity and de - Do not visit Bute without visiting this magnificent house and gardens.
Beautiful gardens. Unfortunately we were only allowed to visit the gardens, it was a drizzley Monday afternoon and we enjoyed our visit.
Hailey 13 contributions. Stunning part of our Scottish Tour. We didn't know if we were allowed to go in side but the grounds were just amazing. We luckily bought some food from the town and sat for a lovely picnic. This venue makes for a great hr stop and perhaps if we went inside we would have discovered more gems. Kenny G 2 contributions. Short Visit. Managed to drive up to the house and Walt round the grounds.
