Lovely clean mineral rich water, who needs a swimming pool, wonderful views of fells whilst in the water. Yellowicious Harrogate, UK 84 contributions. Lovely lake but there are better, sorry! Hard to get down to and can't walk round it, however if you can get down and find a quite spot the views are lovely and the lake is very shallow for a way round the edge, perfect for paddling. Trekbud Loughborough, UK contributions. This is one of the beautiful lakes that make the Lake District such a nice place to visit. Lots of photo opportunities and a fabulous selection of trees.
Kevin B Mattishall, UK 87 contributions. We visited the lake shore near Dubwath where there is limited visibility due to the proliferation of tress and bushes alon the shoreline. You can see people swimming in the lake and get limited views of the mountains.
A better spot was along the A66 at the Bassenthwaite nature reserve. Jan O London, UK contributions. As with all lakes it is stunning and was visible from our bedroom at Armathwaite Hall Hotel. Southwold Sally Ely, UK contributions. Stunning lake. We stopped in a lay-by one evening and took the attached Hot Bassenthwaite anyone, absolutely stunning views.
On another occasion we visited the Armathwaite Hall Hotel and took a stroll by the lake, again fantastic scenery and so peaceful. Took the Dodd trail summit in error by misreading map - to tackle a remarkably 'challenging' walk up through the woods to seee the summit Then over the road to Mirehouse gardens as the lovely house was sadly shut due to COVID but the gorgeous gardens were not Took the walk to St Beghs church closed for wedding quarantine past lots of lovely sheep then back on the trail through some nice woods to a sudden view of Bassenthwaite Lake in the sunshine with the lght dancing on the water Joanne Essex, UK 7 contributions.
Enjoying Nature. I like things that aren't too touristy and off the beaten track. We were driving along, and seeing the lake, pulled into the lay-by Woodend Browparked free for two hours.
We brought our picnic blanket and read for a couple of hours, soaking up the scenery and taking photos, hardly anyone there! We went on a Monday. Written September 2, Boggy Ground, wear wellies, you have been warned!! Waked along the footpath along the north Eastern perimeter, its very boggy, especially the further south east you get.
Would wear wellies if attempting it, you have been warned. Also styles are not dog friendly, need to lift them over. There are much more pleasant walks so overall would avoid. Showing of Lucy Newcastle upon Tyne, UK contributions. Hi, good to read your review of cycling around Bassenthwaite Lake. We are staying northern end of the lake, i'm an ok cyclist with only a reasonable fitness. Please could you tell me if the cycling you are referring to is road or off road, relatively flat or hilly? We really want to avoid any road riding at all. Which side of the lake at the northern end is do-able?
Is it bridleway? Thank you for you help! Helen K teesside 11 contributions. Hello, I'm sorry you have been misinformed, we didn't cycle round Bassenthwaite lake. Just had a brilliant stay at the Armathwaite Hall Hotel. Read all replies. Anything missing or inaccurate?Hot Bassenthwaite anyone
