iDate Right!

Victory Metro East is holding a two-day relationship seminar for Singles called "iDate Right".

It started last Saturday actually and I learned and relearned a lot of things. It was a real privilege to hear it straight from our pastors' wives. It's different when you hear it first during high school from our Love, Courtship and Marriage (LCM) seminars and now that I'm already in my late 20s (omg!).

When I was younger, I was so idealistic and so uptight. I put to heart every details and rules that was mentioned in our high school LCMs. But as they put it, it became more of  "Fate vs Faith". Come to think of it, I may have came to a point that I've been over-spiritual and mystical about it. It may sound bad but I think I had to learn it that way first. I don't think I turned out bad because of it. By God's grace, I was still spared to some "bad decisions" because of these rules and lessons.

I guess, I can compare it to the old saying...

"Love is like playing the piano.
First you must learn to play by the rules,
Then you must forget the rules and play from your heart"

Today, especially that I am in a relationship and in the right age, I'm learning (and keep on relearning) that finding your partner in life and keeping it is still about Faith. Just like everything else, it is about God and it should push you to a more personal relationship with Him.

I used to hate the answer "You'll just know" when married couples are asked how they found out that they have found God's best for them. It's not concrete and it doesn't really answer the question. But when someone (i forgot who) answered me, "God will tell you, so you have to learn how to listen", it became more clear to me.

As the verse says,  The sheep listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me. - John 10:27

During the Q&A part of the seminar, they received lots of very specific questions on dating. I really appreciate what Ate Fhem emphasized: Learn and seek how God talks to you personally. God designed different love stories for each of us so any counselor cannot really give us answers. Only the One who designed and will orchestrate it all can answer our questions. And we can only hear that if we are in tune with Him.

As Pastor Earl emphasized in the seminar said..

"Happiness is more than finding the right person. It's being the right person."

... and being the right person is being in tune with God. :)

There's still a part two next week so if you missed it yesterday, you can still come next week at Victory Metro East, Level 4 Robinson's Metro East.

Send me a message if you'd like to come. I'd love to meet you! :)
